Amethyst is a purple variety of  the quartz family, occurring within rocks as a long prismatic crystal or crystalline crust  called druzes and owes its violet color to irradiation,iron impurities and trace elements. Although the Gem color must be always Purple to be an amethyst it has a wide range of Hues and Tones, from light pinkish to deep purple even green.



Ancient greeks believed that Amethyst protected from intoxication which is why they used to carve wine drinking vessels from it. 

Throughout History Purple color has been consider a royal color.
